Foods That Might Be Causing You Insomnia

To start this 2014 with all the energy you need to rest properly, and if you didn't know, there are some everyday ingredients that can prevent this from happening. Get to know them and try not to consume them before sleeping to be able to fall asleep well.   Those who are rested are more alert, more dynamic, and more energized, we know this. Also, those who sleep the necessary amount of time have better retention of the vitamins and minerals that the body gets from food. The problem can arise when we don't know which products can cause long nights without sleep, and that's why we give you this list to help you prevent this occurrence.

Caffeine

Of course, the most obvious example is coffee, but energy drinks and many types of tea also contain this element. Be careful with soft drinks, as many also contain caffeine, so if you are sensitive to this condition, try to stay away from these products at night or start buying decaffeinated.

Alcohol

Many may think that a good glass of wine will help you relax and sleep. What they don't know is that alcohol produces a much shallower REM sleep cycle than it should be. As a result, you may sleep for several hours, but you won't rest as much as you might believe.

Aged and fermented foods

Tyramine and amino acids found in aged and fermented foods stimulate the brain and may prevent you from falling asleep. Cured meats, strong and aged cheeses could have this effect on your body, so if you want to snack on some cheese before sleeping, choose a fresher one like mozzarella.

Tomato-based products

Anything with an acidic element can cause heartburn and irritation during the night. Both tomato-based dishes and spicy foods have this effect, so we recommend consuming them at least three hours before your bedtime to avoid discomfort. Remember that this is not a list of products you should avoid 100%, just be careful about when you eat them because if you consume them very close to your resting hours, then you run the risk of tossing and turning all night.
