Due to its temperature, humidity, and ventilation, each part of the refrigerator's interior is designed to better preserve certain foods over others. Therefore, here’s how to arrange each type of food inside your refrigerator:
- You probably want to store food that you prepared the day before, as it requires a moderately cold temperature and good air circulation; you should keep it in airtight containers on the top shelves.
- Dairy products and their derivatives such as milk, yogurt, cream, eggs, etc., require a very cold temperature, so you should place them on the middle shelves.
- If you want to keep fresh raw meats whether beef, chicken, fish, or pork, you should place them at the bottom of the refrigerator to prevent their juices from dripping onto other foods.
- The center drawers are ideal for storing cold cuts, sausages, and cheeses as they require little air circulation. If they are already opened, keep them in plastic bags to prevent air from getting in and prolong their freshness.
- To preserve the flavor and texture of both fruits and vegetables, store them in the lower drawers as these maintain higher temperature and humidity.
