Gorditas from the Villa

This delicious recipe is typical in Mexico City. They are called gorditas de la villa because their origin comes from the surroundings of the Villa de Guadalupe. They are also known as gorditas de atrio, as they are very popular nowadays at the exits of churches, adorned with colored tissue paper.

The Gorditas are made with masa for tamales and a hint of sugar. They are cooked on the griddle, giving them a slightly burnt flavor that makes them delicious.
