Preheat the oven to 170°C. Mix the dates and boiling water and blend until a thick mixture forms. Set aside and let cool. Cream the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Add the dates and water. Set aside. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Add to the sugar mixture, mixing well. Pour the mixture into a previously greased square pan of approximately 22 x 33 cm. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and walnuts. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes. Let cool and cut into squares of approximately 5 cm.
