Ingredients: 1/2 kilos puff pastry; 5 red apples; 1/2 sticks butter; 1/2 cups sugar, standard or mascabado; 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder; 1 glass brandy, Rum or Whisky; raisins, golden or black) and/or chopped nuts (to taste); 1 egg, for brushing

Chop the apple into small cubes, melt the butter in a pot, add the apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat for about half an hour or until the apples soften a bit, stirring occasionally. Near the end, add the liquor. If desired, you can add raisins that you can soak in the liquor beforehand (I recommend golden raisins). Roll out the puff pastry to half a cm thick, forming a rectangle. With a slotted spoon, strain some of the mixture and place it in the middle of the apples, leaving about 10 cm on each side (You can also add chopped walnuts here). Cut diagonal strips from each side. Fold the top and bottom sides, and then fold the strips inward from one side to the other, forming a simple braid. Brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar.
