Preheat the oven to 150° C. In a pot over low heat, cook the sugar until it forms an amber-colored caramel without stirring to avoid crystallizing the sugar. Pour the hot caramel into a 20 cm diameter flan mold and let it dry. Grease the edges of the mold with butter and sugar and set aside.
