Mix 2 and a half cups of the boiling water with the tamarind pulp in a deep bowl. Let it soak for 10 minutes. With a fork, undo the tamarind in pieces and leave it another 5 minutes. Pass the mixture through a sieve and discard the solids. Reserve the liquid.
Mix 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water in a bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes at high temperature (until the sugar dissolves).
Put in a jar the tamarind liquid with the sugar syrup, with the vodka and lemon juice. Mix well. Add crushed ice and stir.
Frost the martini glasses with sugar if desired, and serve the tamarind martinis passed through a sieve. Decorate the glasses with a slice of lemon.
