The tarugo is a Mexican sweet made with tamarind pulp, sugar, and chili powder. Although it is more common in coastal cities, nowadays we can find these sweets in markets, stores, candy shops, and more.

The best part of this sweet is that it is made with few ingredients, is very yielding, and can be rolled in sugar or chili powder, so both kids and adults can enjoy it.

Add the tamarind pulp, water, sugar, chili powder, and salt to a pot. Cook for 5 minutes or until the tamarind dissolves. Once dissolved, cook for an additional 5 to 8 minutes or until it thickens. Remove and place on a tray lined with wax paper and let cool. Shape the tamarind into balls with your hands and then roll them in sugar or chili powder.
