Try this delicious Mexican Steak Lasagna with flour tortillas and give a twist to this popular dish. A different version of the classic Mexican Lasagna recipe, made with homemade flour tortillas and a Mexican steak filling. This combination of two Mexican stews is innovative and perfect to share with everyone at home. Nobody will be able to resist the soft meat with onion, tomato and chile serrano between layers of fluffy tortillas and with lots of cheese. Ingredients

10 servings
  • 4 cups of wheat flour for the tortillas
  • 1/3 of teaspoonful of Salt for the tortillas
  • 2 teaspoons of Rexal® Baking Powder for the tortillas
  • 1/2 Cup of Butter for the tortillas
  • 1/2 Cup of vegetable shortening for the tortillas
  • 1 Cup of Water hot, for the tortillas
  • 2 spoonfuls of oil
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic finely chopped
  • 1 Cup of White onion finely chopped
  • 2 cups of tomato finely chopped
  • 1/2 Cup of serrano pepper cut into slices
  • 3 cups of beef steak chopped
  • 1 pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1/2 Cup of coriander finely chopped
  • 1 Cup of refried beans
  • 2 cups of asadero cheese grated
  • 1 Cup of red sauce
  • to taste of avocado in slices, to decorate
  • to taste of coriander to garnish

    Preparation

    Preheat the oven to 180 °C. (356°F)
    For the tortillas, in a bowl mix the flour with the salt, the Rexal® baking powder, the butter, the vegetable lard and the water. Knead until obtaining a homogeneous dough. Let stand for 15 minutes.
    Form a ball of dough and on a floured surface, extend to form the tortilla. Cook on low heat for 3 minutes, or until tortilla puffs and is cooked on the inside, turning once halfway through cooking.
    Heat a pan over medium heat with the oil, cook the garlic and onion until transparent. Add the tomato and serrano pepper, cook a minute, add the steak and season with salt and pepper. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes or until the meat is cooked, ending with chopped cilantro.
    In a cast iron pan or pan, place a base of flour tortillas, spread with beans and place a layer of the Mexican steak, cover with cheese and bathe with red sauce, repeat the process until filled up. Cover with a last layer of flour tortillas, cheese and bake 10 minutes. Serve with fresh avocado and cilantro.

    PRESENTATION

    Bake and serve in a pan, garnish with avocado and fresh coriander.
