Preparation
In a medium pot heat the oil over medium heat and brown the onions and garlic for 5 minutes. Move the mixture with a spoon to avoid burning.
Add the tomatoes and their juice, the tomato puree, the basil and the spices. Continue cooking until the sauce boils.
Lower to low heat and continue cooking for 20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
