Marinara sauce is a very versatile sauce that can be used for many recipes of pasta, chicken, fish and breads.

Ingredients

3 portions
  • 2 cups canned tomato, chopped or whole
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons basil
  • 1/2 tablespoons salt
  • 1/2 tablespoons black pepper

Preparation

In a medium pot heat the oil over medium heat and brown the onions and garlic for 5 minutes. Move the mixture with a spoon to avoid burning.
Add the tomatoes and their juice, the tomato puree, the basil and the spices. Continue cooking until the sauce boils.
Lower to low heat and continue cooking for 20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.

This recipe produces 3 cups of marinara sauce.
