Place the can of tomatoes with their juices in the food processor and pulse until they are slightly chopped. Transfer to a bowl and set aside. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and onion. Cook, stirring until the garlic and onion are cooked (5-10 minutes for the garlic and 20 minutes for the onion).
