Wash the potatoes thoroughly, peel them, and cut them into small pieces. Place them in a plastic bag (or wrap them individually in self-adhesive plastic) and put them in the microwave on high for 10 minutes. Take the potatoes out of the bag, place them in a deep bowl, and add the butter. Mash the potatoes with a fork or a potato masher, add the milk, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
