The city of Martinez, in California, San Francisco, and even New York are competing for the origin of the martini, a cocktail traditionally made with gin and dry vermouth, typically served with a green olive.
Over time, the ingredients for its preparation have been modified and adapted to different tastes; there are even variations accepted by mixologists, such as the "dirty" which includes olive brine or the "Gibson" which has a small onion.
Below we present four ways to prepare a different martini:
Tip: If you like to add lemon to your cocktail, ask for a twist, which is the lemon peel, and request that it be squeezed a little.
Fresh Martini
Ingredients:
- A splash of White Martini
- Half a can of Seven Up or Sprite
- A third of a glass of Gin
- Ice
Fill a tall glass with ice, add the third of gin, then the splash of White Martini, and top with Seven Up or Sprite.
Martini Royal
Ingredients:
- Half a glass of White Martini
- Half a glass of Prosecco or Cava
- Mint
- A slice of lime
- Ice
Fill a cocktail glass, add the White Martini and Cava, and decorate the glass with the slice of lime and mint.
Manhattan
Ingredients:
- Two-thirds of a glass of Whisky
- One-third of a glass of Rosso Martini
- Two or three drops of Angostura
- A red cherry
- Orange peel
- Ice
Mix the Whisky, Rosso Martini, and Angostura in a shaker with ice until you achieve a uniform color. Strain the mixture and serve in a cocktail glass. Garnish with the cherry and a spiral of orange peel.
Dry Martini
Ingredients:
- A quarter of a glass of Extra Dry Martini
- A glass of Gin
- Lemon peel
- A pitted olive
- Ice
Fill a shaker with ice and chill by shaking quickly and draining the water. Add the Extra Dry Martini and gin to the chilled shaker and shake. Then, strain into a cocktail glass and perfume with a piece of lemon peel. Garnish with a green olive on a toothpick.
