Gastronomic Recommendations
The restaurant
Piloncillo y Cascabel, where ordinary food is cooked in an extraordinary way, is a clear example that
the city’s gastronomic proposal doesn’t need to be ostentatious, eccentric, or complicated to achieve excellence in flavor and quality.
Known for its original, simple, and delicious culinary inventiveness, Piloncillo y Cascabel was born in 2010, thanks to
Wenceslao Vera and Itzia Rojas, graduates of the Gastronomy degree from the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, who together created a paradise for both their team and their suppliers at the Central de Abastos.
The specialty of
Piloncillo y Cascabel is
contemporary Mexican cuisine, which they present in a 3-course menu, different every day, that costs only $90 pesos and flies off the shelves thanks to its flavor and affordable prices.
In addition to the daily menu, we can find breakfasts starting at $65 pesos, such as the irresistible
chilaquiles with chapulín sauce, or main dishes that do not exceed $100 pesos, like
mushroom consomme with ravioli or risotto with salmon; however, my all-time favorite is the dessert, which is crowned by the
hot oaxaqueño chocolate cake. While they could be defined as a bistro eatery thanks to their delicious dishes, the food at
Piloncillo y Cascabel stands out for being
creative yet simple, well-made, and above all, honest, without extra charges or any pretension.
