Benefits: Splenda® is part of the revolutionary advancement for patients with obesity and diabetes mellitus, due to its action as a calorie-free sweetener. It has also shown beneficial effects in laboratory studies of patients with diabetes; in a study conducted by Reyna et al., the metabolic benefits and body measurements were compared in response to a diet based on the nutritional recommendations of the American Diabetic Association with the incorporation of fat substitutes and calorie-free sweeteners, where notable improvements in weight, body mass index, cholesterol levels, and glucose levels were reported. Another benefit of using Splenda® in the diet of diabetics was reported in a study conducted by Grotz et al., where it was demonstrated that the consumption of Splenda® for 3 months at doses of 7.5 mg/kg/day, which is approximately 3 times the estimated maximum daily dose, did not show any effect on glucose metabolism in participants with type 2 diabetes. Splenda® does not affect blood glucose control in patients with diabetes, as confirmed after a high oral dose of sucralose (Splenda®), where the results of blood glucose levels showed no significant difference compared to the placebo.

Safety: The safety of Splenda® has been the subject of extensive and rigorous research. It was conducted through one of the largest research programs ever undertaken to investigate the safety of a new food additive. Various studies were conducted, including: * Human tolerance studies to confirm the safety of daily consumption, using estimated maximum amounts of daily intake. * Studies in people with diabetes and those without diabetes to evaluate the effect on insulin management and glucose level balance, including long-term glucose control. Important data: 85% of the sucralose consumed is not absorbed in the digestive system, which is important because this is why it has no side effects at the gastrointestinal level. No adverse effects were found from daily doses of Splenda® in various clinical studies. It was also confirmed that there is no risk of toxicity from accidental consumption of large amounts of Splenda®. Studies have also confirmed that the use of Splenda® during pregnancy is safe, as it does not cause any harm to the baby either during pregnancy or at birth. In humans, tolerance studies were also conducted, where large amounts of Splenda® were administered for weeks up to 500mg for 5 weeks, and no alterations were presented in blood, urine studies, or electrocardiograms. It was also demonstrated in studies of up to 6 months at high doses that it does not cause any alteration in insulin sensitivity and glucose control in diabetic patients. It was also confirmed that Splenda® has no potential to cause dental caries.
