Freezing your food can change your life. That is true. However, there are some foods you should not keep in the freezer because it could affect their consistency. Find out which foods you should keep out of the freezer.
Green vegetables
Lettuce, kale, celery, and spinach lose their natural crunchy texture when stored in the freezer. To make matters worse, their flavor also loses a lot of intensity when the green leaves are subjected to freezing temperatures. Additionally, since some have large amounts of water, they undergo the dreaded effect of becoming "burned"; which means their consistency will become a bit wrinkled and they will leak too much.
Some dairy products
Milk, soft cheese, yogurt, and cream should never be frozen. And the reason is very simple. The fat present in these foods tends to separate when frozen, so when they return to room temperature, the result is a somewhat unpleasant substance. Although you can use thawed dairy products for cooking, we assure you that you won't want to eat them on their own.
Fried foods
French fries or fried chicken should never be put in the freezer. Low temperatures cause the crunchy texture to
turn into a soft and watery consistency. Moreover, this process makes the oil seep even more into the food, making it more difficult to remove the excess grease with paper towels.
Eggs
A big mistake that is often made is freezing eggs while still in their shells. Remember that liquids expand when frozen, so the eggs can explode and become exposed to bacteria. If you need to store eggs in the freezer, break them and put them in airtight containers.
Potatoes
Like green leaves, potatoes lose a lot of texture when frozen. If you want to make french fries, never
freeze them before cooking. If you are going to make soups or broths, the change in potato consistency doesn’t matter much.
Raw fruits and vegetables
The high liquid content of raw fruits and vegetables makes them practically forbidden foods in the freezer. We only recommend freezing fruits when you are going to prepare a smoothie.
Rice and pasta
Don’t ruin a delicious dish of rice or pasta by storing it in the freezer. Unless you want to reheat a dish with a watery consistency, it’s better to keep rice and pasta away from this part of the refrigerator.
