Typical Rosca de Reyes

Try this typical kings' cake, it's easy to make and it has a flavor that everyone will love. This recipe is really delicious.

Ingredients

  • 15 grams of yeast
  • 125 grams of Water tibia
  • 500 grams of flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 125 grams of sugar
  • 1 teaspoonful of Salt
  • to taste of Orange zest
  • 2 spoonfuls of milk
  • 90 grams of Butter
  • 190 grams of sugar glass (sugar crust)
  • 2 egg yolks (sugar crust)
  • 90 grams of flour (sugar crust)
  • 90 grams of acitrón (sugar crust)
  • 90 grams of margarine (sugar crust)
  • 1 egg (sugar crust)
  • to taste of sugar (sugar crust)
  • to taste of artificial colorant (sugar crust)

    Preparation

    Preheat the oven to 225ºC.
    In a bowl, hydrate the yeast with warm water and two tablespoons of flour, until no lumps remain. Cover with a rag.
    Make a hole in the center of the flour and add the eggs, sugar, milk, orange zest and butter. Mix well until a homogeneous mixture is formed. Add the salt, the yeast and incorporate them into the mixture.
    Sprinkle some flour on the table and knead.
    Put a little flour in a bowl and add the dough. Cover and let stand for 1 hour.
    Chop the acitron in strips, in different glasses add the dyes of different colors with water so that the color is diluted, add acitrón strips to paint it.
    In a bowl beat the margarine, the icing sugar, the flour and the egg yolks. Reserve.
    With the mixture of icing sugar, form the tongues that will go as an ornament in the thread.
    Put the dough in a tray and spread it in the form of a thread.
    Put the tongues in the dough and add the acitrón on top of the thread.
    Bake for 20 minutes.
    Remove it, varnish it with egg and sprinkle sugar.
    Return the thread for 10 minutes at 180ºC.
    Take it out of the oven and serve.
