We have always heard the word "diet," and I am sure that many, or the vast majority of people in the world have tried some type of diet. And to do this, there is a wide variety to choose from under which regimen we will submit ourselves with the promise of losing a few extra kilos: whether we count calories per day, follow the phases of the moon, or if the only thing we consume is fruit, or fats, or we eliminate carbohydrates; in short, there are thousands of diets.
But what we want to talk about is the difference between a diet and something that has recently become very well-known and followed by many people: DETOX.
We hear and read many things and recommendations about detox everywhere. The word comes from DETOXIFICATION, and its rise and popularity have been so great that it ranges from the proposal of detox juices to recipes for detoxing your hair! Yes, you read that right; the detox trend has reached hair care.
So, we are clearly experiencing a change in habits to take care of both health and appearance; but what are the true differences between these two proposals?
On one hand, diets have proven to be present in the lives of millions of people, but not all of them prove their results. What has happened is that the concept of diet has become erroneous, believing that a diet means restricting food intake in order to achieve or maintain a certain body weight. In reality, what "diet" means is a nutritional regimen suitable for obtaining all the necessary nutrients for the proper functioning of the body, varying the amounts and types of food. Thus, each culture has its own "diet" depending on the region; the Mexican diet is not the same as the Scandinavian diet.
In contrast,
DETOX involves a cleansing of your organism. With all the products that now exist in the market, we are filling our bodies with toxins and poisons that, many times, our system is not able to fully digest, creating layers of toxins that cover our stomach and intestines, for example. So, DETOX means CLEANING your body, and it is carried out through fresh foods, raw fruits and vegetables, natural juices, the elimination or reduction of sugars and salts, and basically consuming completely natural foods.
When we detoxify our body by eating clean, we manage to reduce toxin levels while staying nourished without harming our body. And good news to add to all this detox is that it generates sustainable fat and weight loss! As the body adapts to living under healthy conditions, it becomes less inflamed, and the accumulation of toxic layers stops because it now only receives clean and healthy foods.
And the benefits of eating clean truly reflect in many areas of our lives; our attitude changes because we feel lighter, our figure shows it because we de-bloat, and our skin looks fresher and more radiant because it is no longer fed by toxins. For this reason, doing detox periods also helps delay aging.
