Have you ever experienced a bad waiter, cold food, or any discomfort in a restaurant? Here are some tips on how to behave in each of the most common situations.

Cold food? If you receive your dish at an inappropriate temperature, it is perfectly acceptable to call the waiter and ask them to heat your plate. The truth is that many times this error is from the kitchen and not the service, so the complaint should not be directed towards your waiter. Out of what you ordered? In any restaurant that prides itself on quality, they should inform you at the moment they run out of an ingredient. There is a belief that running out of a product in a kitchen is bad; in reality, in many cases, it is a sign of freshness as they buy things daily and in small batches. What you should expect from your waiter is to let you know this information from the start so that you do not create false expectations. Should I leave a tip? This can vary depending on where you are. For example, in Europe, the salaries for waiters are included in the bill, so leaving a tip is unusual and only done in cases of exceptionally good service. In Mexico, it is customary to leave a tip ranging from 10 to 15% of the bill. What you should know is that it is not mandatory, and no matter what you are told otherwise, if you are not satisfied with the service you received, you can, without any remorse, skip the tip. Is there a dress code for restaurants? There is not, you may feel more comfortable dressing for the occasion or the atmosphere of the place may invite you to dress up a bit more, but by law, no place can deny you service based on how you are dressed. Allergies? Every menu has what the restaurant offers, but it is an obligation of a good chef to change at least some of their dishes if required for allergy reasons. If you suffer from lactose, shellfish, or any type of fruit poisoning, then tell your waiter and ask them to relay that information to the chef so you can eat deliciously and safely. Open kitchens A restaurant with an open kitchen means they have confidence in their product and technique. Any place that allows you to observe their workspace invites you to eat there because that confidence comes from a sense of cleanliness and quality that instills trust. Remember that you are the one paying when you go out to eat, and for that reason, the restaurant has a commitment to you. Things should be prepared in a way that makes you feel comfortable, allowing you to have the best possible evening.
