Puerto Escondido is a small town in Oaxaca on the Pacific coast. It is made up of eight distinct beaches, each with its unique charm, featuring peculiarities worthy of a visit.

In the main bay, there are many restaurants, bars, and shops. Boat rides are also available, where turtles and dolphins are often spotted. Puerto Escondido has a great diversity of dishes, and although one might think its cuisine focuses on seafood, it is actually a vast melting pot of the fish and seafood offered by the coast and the typical food of Oaxaca. Thus, you will find restaurants offering grilled fish, ceviche, snail soup, and seafood, while others offer mole negro, cecina enchilada, tamales de tichindas, quesillo, tlayudas with tasajo, and chapulines tacos.

This port enjoys a great climate as well as culinary, entertainment, and ecotourism offerings that are worth experiencing. For your visit, I recommend:
  1. Staying in a boutique hotel or house like Hotel Escondido, Casita Tiny, Casa Macaria, or Casa Las Tinajas.
  2. Dine at sunset in one of the restaurants in Punta Pájaros, such as Bar Cobarde, which has a mezcal bar, or Kakurega Oakase, which has a sake bar.
  3. Visit Casa Wabi and take a guided tour with one of the resident artists.
  4. Visit Zicatela at night and go bar hopping to enjoy the atmosphere.
  5. Take surf lessons at one of its beaches
Gourmetip: Focus the culinary experiences on regional cuisine.
