According to the University of Oviedo, taking that social element and removing it from the gastronomic experience leads to harmful cycles that can cause serious problems sooner or later. One of the points discussed in the research is that, for the most part, those who eat alone prepare their food with less care and look for easier solutions to food preparation. Whether due to hurry, laziness, or lack of motivation to make an effort, people who eat alone do not chop vegetables or prepare salads; instead, they largely rely on precooked foods and even order from restaurants. It has also been proven that solitary eating results in a diet that is much less varied, fresh, and of quality than that of someone who eats in company. People who eat and live alone usually, according to the research, tend to buy non-perishable products and consume the same ingredients repeatedly. This is a problem for two reasons: the first is that by buying canned products that last a long time, the freshness factor is lost, which is the main attribute of important ingredients like meat and vegetables. On the other hand, the lack of variety in the diet leads our bodies to stop functioning as efficiently and to atrophy. Additionally, unlike adults, it is important to know that children or adolescents who eat alone face more severe consequences than nutritional deficiencies. In a study conducted by Columbia University in 2003, it was proven that young people who have family dinners five times a week smoke less, consume less alcohol, and have a lower tendency to try drugs. In contrast, young people who have family dinners only two times a week suffer from a greater tendency to have social problems. Another argument in favor of eating in company is the speed at which food is consumed. Enjoying breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the company of someone stimulates conversation, which causes us to moderate both the size of the bites we take and the speed at which we consume food. It is well known that the stomach and the entire gastric system appreciate well-chewed food and a slow intake that allows the body to work. According to collected information, 30% of the world population usually eats alone both during the week and on weekends and holidays. It is important to recover that tradition that brings us around a table as it improves our family experience in addition to helping with our nutritional health and even aiding in weight loss.
