Since December 2019, a new virus known as coronavirus COVID19 has spread from the city of Wuhan, China, to the rest of the world, infecting more than 115,000 people and claiming the lives of 4,000 victims in 114 countries.

For this reason, various countries such as Spain, the United States, Argentina, and recently Mexico have implemented security measures like quarantine to prevent the increase of infections.

In fact, in March 2020, guidelines were issued for schools and universities to suspend classes until the end of April, and some companies have also joined the strategy by implementing home office to safeguard the health of their workers, urging everyone to maintain social isolation as much as possible.

Now, considering that radical changes in routine and lack of physical activity can have serious repercussions for our digestive system, it is necessary to take care of our diet to balance the intestinal flora.

The best way to care for our digestion and avoid problems like bloating, constipation, and heaviness in the stomach is to reduce the consumption of processed foods with high sugar levels, stay constantly hydrated, and consume fruits and vegetables. But what are the best foods for good digestion?

According to the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), constant intake of water and high-fiber foods promotes intestinal flora; therefore, below we present some fruits and vegetables that should not be missing from your diet.

Bananas

Bananas are high-fiber fruits that also contain fructooligosaccharides, a component that helps improve intestinal flora and promotes good digestion. Try to eat one a day, and you will notice how your system begins to function better.

Red Fruits

Red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, in addition to being excellent antioxidants, contain substances that help prevent constipation. These can be combined with different cereals like oats and amaranth, which mixed make an excellent combination to care for the digestive system.

Papaya

This fruit is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and digestive enzymes for health, thus caring for both your stomach and intestines. You can eat it raw, in juices, smoothies, or even in salads, and it will always have great benefits for your digestion.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Vegetables like kale, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts have high levels of dietary fiber and folate, providing anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties that help improve digestion. Ideally, steam or sauté them to facilitate the digestive process.

Water

It is imperative to understand that no matter how much fiber is consumed, if you do not drink enough water, digestion, nutrient absorption, and circulation in the body will not occur properly. There are some foods like cucumbers, melons, and tomatoes that can also help you stay hydrated.

Remember that during this quarantine period, you should not only protect yourself from respiratory diseases but also take care of your overall health by balancing your diet and maintaining impeccable hygiene in your home.
