Guava, sugar cane, and orange: fill your healthy piñata

With this cold season and festivities come the piñatas. We recommend going back to the origins and filling them with delicious fruits that are also good for your children. It’s already November and the cold is starting. This means that Christmas and many other celebrations like posadas are approaching. During these, we usually make piñatas so that both adults and children can have fun and enjoy a memorable experience. Now, in recent years, piñatas have been filled with synthetic candies and chewing gum that, although more eye-catching, do not have the cultural, nutritional, or historical value of the classic piñata filling: fruits.   In a classic piñata, what falls when it is finally broken are mandarins, tejocotes, oranges, sugar canes, guavas, and even peanuts. If we think about all these ingredients, we can realize that they are all superfoods with countless health benefits. There is none on this list that does not offer some plus for the body and is also appetizing. Let’s take the orange, mandarin, and guava as examples. In all three cases, we are talking about powerful sources of vitamin C, which is so good at this time of year for reducing the chances of contracting respiratory illnesses. Sugar cane, on the other hand, provides the body with natural energy without having to add any preservatives or chemical agents. Peanuts, for their part, are a primary ingredient for anyone looking to lower cholesterol and even clean arteries thanks to their good fats. In fact, many studies promote their use in diets for weight loss as nuts regulate metabolism and make it more productive when it comes to burning calories. Let’s remember that the piñata, now so trivialized with bagged candies and junk snacks, has always been a surprise full of health to share during these beautiful year-end times. Recently, we wrote about Christmas punch and how it is a blend of these fruits and a perfect complement for cold nights. If you want to make your posadas and pastorelas a perfect day, then you can perfectly gather the fruits from the piñata with your family and later make punch for everyone with those same ingredients. It’s an activity that includes everyone and that people of all ages can enjoy.
