If you are one of those people who usually fast during Lent, we have prepared delicious and rich recipes to break the fast.
The most important thing during these days is that if you have decided not to start your day with the usual breakfast foods, you should eat enough protein at mealtime so that you can have plenty of energy until you eat again. Here’s a fun fact: the church mandates that abstinence (from eating red meat) must be observed starting at 14 years old, and fasting is required from 18 to 59 years old.
Breaking the fast is not that easy and can be compared to how difficult it is to refrain from eating for many hours. When your body is without food, it has a resting digestive system, so it is not advisable to resort to fatty or heavy foods.
Recommendations for breaking the fast:
- Do not overeat. Remember that you should not overload your stomach and you should not try to eat what you missed during the fasting hours; eat enough and only nutritious foods that your body needs to have energy. If you eat an appropriate portion, you will feel satisfied; if you eat too much, you may feel tired and sluggish.
- Set a time to break the fast. Do not decide at the moment when you feel hungry because that may lead to overeating.
- Drink plenty of fluids. This will help you feel full during the fasting hours and keep you well-hydrated for proper digestion. Juices can also be included.
- Take the opportunity to fully enjoy your meal. Do not eat quickly; give yourself the chance to see the colors of your food, savor the aromas, and finally, discover all the spices in a single bite.
- Look for a recreational activity after eating. If you have commitments or an activity you enjoy after eating, you can leave the table as soon as you finish your food and there will be no need to keep eating.
- Start your meals with light foods. You can choose chopped fruit or raw vegetables that retain all their nutrients.
We hope these tips have been helpful and we hope you enjoy these delicious recipes to break the fast that we have within our community.
