One of the most effective ways to lose sleep is having someone snoring beside you, and we have all experienced it at some point. That’s why here are some home remedies to prevent snoring; if not for yourself, do it for those you care about.
The sound of snoring is caused when there is a small obstruction that hinders the free passage of air through the back of the mouth and nose. It is estimated that at least 25% of adults today suffer from this condition, which, while not classified as a disease, does wreak havoc on both their own and others' sleep.

Initially, we can identify some everyday causes of snoring. If we avoid them before sleeping, we might achieve an effective and quick result.
- Alcohol
- Nasal congestion
- Overweight
- Deviated septum
For obvious reasons, the last option, the deviated septum, can only be treated with medical intervention and even surgery, so it is ruled out in terms of home remedies. On the other hand, all the other reasons can be easily remedied if one wants to sleep peacefully. We should also know that snoring does not only affect others, as it can have unpleasant consequences for the person snoring as well. Symptoms include interrupted sleep, dry mouth, fatigue, headaches, hoarseness, and irritability.
As for practical and home solutions, we recommend the following:
- Change your sleeping position; often, this is all it takes. If you sleep on your back, try sleeping on your stomach or side, as many times snoring is induced by the position of the head while resting.
- Exercise; it is proven that losing weight helps stop snoring, and it is also confirmed that overweight individuals suffer from chronic snoring.
- Avoid alcohol after ten at night, as this helps prevent the relaxation of the throat muscles, allowing them to continue their normal function.
- Change your pillows; often, dust or some microorganism in your resting place can promote poor health and chronic snoring, so it is healthy to change pillows from time to time.
- Stay well hydrated; dryness of the mouth and throat accompanies snoring, so drinking plenty of fluids during the day also helps smoothen the roughness of the throat and reduce snoring.
