Take note of 5 important tips for a balanced life. At the end, we’ve included some healthy recipes for you to consider.
- Manage your diet like a budget. Everyone has a daily calorie allowance. It’s about spending them wisely. Let’s say you have a budget to buy three appliances: a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a washing machine. However, when you enter the store, you buy other items. Before you know it, you no longer have enough money to buy what you needed and you’ve filled your home with useless stuff. This is what we do when we eat cookies, popcorn, chips, cola, unhealthy prepared meals, all kinds of snacks, candies, etc. You end up not eating what is necessary: vegetables, fruits, legumes, pasta, meats, fish, eggs, dairy, etc., and you fill up on useless calories. Try to eliminate them or reduce them as much as possible, you will see the difference for your health and budget.
- Never count calories, but know their value. If you think of your diet as a well-managed budget, you will never be counting calories. You will create categories, the sum of which must match the total daily calorie allowance. You will know in advance what you should eat and what you shouldn’t.
- Try to maintain meal times. When someone eats a sandwich in the car and doesn’t have time to sit down for a meal, they often say: "I haven’t eaten today." Whether they like it or not, the sandwich counts; the same goes for the coffees and snacks we have throughout the day. Keeping a regular meal schedule, at appropriate times and as balanced as possible, will help you feel like you have eaten and you won’t feel the need to snack all day long.
- Don’t give up anything, but know how to compensate. Nothing prevents you from eating nuts, nougat, or pastries at certain times. But it should be done in moderation. If one day you indulge, because there is a special meal, the next day you should compensate with fruits, salad, and something light.
- Be aware that food is not a game. It has been noted that the advertising of certain products aimed at children and teenagers uses the "fun" factor as a selling point. What are the consequences of this? Vegetables are not liked because they are not fun, but many products high in fats and sugars are, because they invite adventure through massive advertising campaigns.
The relationship between health and diet is captured in a saying:
"We are what we eat", and nutritional education is not a game, no matter how much some companies try to take it to that level with false promises.
