If there’s anything more annoying than washing dishes, it’s struggling with pans to get rid of the grease and burnt food that gets stuck on the edges. It doesn’t matter if you have stainless steel or Teflon; we show you 5 foolproof tricks to remove grease from pans.

Soap and hot water

Perhaps the simplest tip of all is to pour a bit of soapy water over your pan and heat it over medium heat for a few minutes. This will help lift the grease and grime easily; you just need to scrub with a soft sponge and rinse with cold water.

White vinegar and baking soda

White vinegar and baking soda are two great allies in home cleaning, and this time, you can mix ½ cup of vinegar with a cup of water in your stained pan. Bring it to a boil for a few minutes and remove the pan from the heat; then add the baking soda, and after a fizzy reaction, the grime will be much easier to lift.

Aluminum foil with salt

This hack is especially good for cast iron pans, so if you have some, don’t hesitate to use a tablespoon of coarse salt and a piece of aluminum foil with the shiny side facing out. First, sprinkle the salt in the pan and then scrub the burnt areas with the aluminum foil until it darkens. This method doesn’t damage the surface and allows you to remove food residues that get stuck.

Baking soda and lemon

Another amazing combination is baking soda with lemon, as the astringent properties of the former help eliminate grease and food residues affecting the surface; and lemon, on its part, dissolves the burnt appearance. Just sprinkle a bit of baking soda in the pan and gently rub with a piece of lemon. Wash and rinse as you normally do.

Mineral water

Mineral water will also help with pots and cast iron pans. You just need to pour a bit of water in the pan and heat it for a few minutes. The fizzy drink will prevent food from sticking too much, making it easier to remove when washing the pan as usual.

Use these foolproof tricks and let us know how much the quality of your pans improves once you start getting rid of the grease and food residues for good.
